Getting Clear on Your Passion

In research for one of my books I created a survey, asking many women across the country what passion means to them. Below are some of their responses. Do any of these fit with your own understanding of passion?

To it means I am doing whatever it takes to help abused children. Being an abused child myself, I knew at an early age I wanted to make a difference for other abused children. That was the passion that drove me.

In my mind living your passion means that you get up everyday and you want to start to work on your project, your business, because this is the thing that brings you the most joy.

Passion is the fuel that makes me feel alive and gives my life meaning. It’s directed toward something I care about that is bigger than me, but important to me in my life and in the lives of others.

How does your definition compare to these? Do you have a goal that makes you jump out of bed and work tirelessly? Never ever giving up? We certainly know the feeling of having a passion for creating the best lives we can for our children, our parents, our families, don’t we?

Many of us understand the taste of that kind of passion. As you’re forming in your mind what this means to you and determining what is your passion, perhaps relating to that complete and utterly unconditional love you have for your children if you’re a mom, or if you’re an aunt or sister or daughter or wife or partner, you understand what it feels like.

Take some time and think about what you are passionate about. Sit with that for a while. In my next blog I’m going to give you some strategies for clarifying your passion, so don’t get frustrated if you’re having trouble with this part. We’re just getting started!
